Children with improved communication skills after speech therapy for kids in Inverness, FL

Anchoring foundational skills for student success.

At Anchor Language & Literacy, I am committed to helping children excel in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

I always look at the big picture— so everything we do in speech, language, or literacy therapy will support your child’s success in the classroom. Your child is unique, and it is my mission to identify their strengths, address their communication and literacy challenges, and help them reach their goals.

Parents and caregivers are always welcome to participate in therapy sessions and ask questions. Together, we’ll fill in the gaps and help your child become a life-long learner!

We Specialize in Speech, Language, and Literacy Therapy for Kids

Is your child "smart” but still experiences significant problems with reading, comprehension, and making speech sounds? You are not alone, and I can help! Reach out to get started today.

Literacy ~ Reading & Dyslexia

Does your child get discouraged about reading? I have the answer! Structured literacy intervention is proven to be the best way to support struggling readers and children diagnosed with dyslexia.

I use my training in Orton-Gillingham to break reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds. My goal is to build on your child’s individual strengths by teaching new concepts in an explicit, systematic, and sequential way. Your child will be engaged and have fun as they learn through hands-on activities!

Speech ~ Articulation & Phonological Disorders

Is your child difficult to understand or having a hard time making certain speech sounds? I will assess whether their challenges are related to articulation, phonology, or motor coordination and create a plan to help them speak more clearly.

Speech therapy involves practicing the correct production of speech sounds during fun and engaging activities. Your child will gain the skills they need to become a more confident communicator!

Language ~ Expression & Comprehension

Successful communication requires a combination of receptive and expressive language skills. If your child has difficulty expressing their thoughts or understanding what they hear and read, I can help!

Language therapy will support your child’s overall ability to listen, speak, read, and write in school. Your child will gain confidence as they master age-appropriate vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and social skills.

Writing ~ Composition & Spelling

Does your child have difficulty organizing and expressing their thoughts on paper, writing grammatically correct sentences, or using correct capitalization and punctuation? If so, they might benefit from writing therapy.

My goal is to help your child become a strong writer and clearly express their opinions, thoughts, and ideas on paper. I teach new concepts explicitly and in a systematic way to take the frustration out of writing.

Susan Evans, M.A., CCC-SLP

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist, Literacy Specialist, Orton-Gillingham Certified

Hi, I’m Susan, a speech therapist with over 35 years of experience working in schools and private practice. My clinical specialty lies at the intersection of communication and literacy— which means that I combine expertise as a speech therapist and certified Orton-Gillingham provider to help students thrive.

Above all, my passion is for helping students succeed in the classroom. I founded Anchor Language & Literacy to help children build their speech, language, and literacy skills.

In my experience, Orton-Gillingham is often “the missing piece” that unlocks a student’s potential. I can’t wait to show you all that your child is capable of achieving!

  • "It has been a great experience..."

“We have been fortunate enough to have Susan work with 2 of our 4 boys. It has been a great experience for us and the boys. The virtual platform makes it very easy to fit into our daily schedule and even allows us to get therapy while traveling. Susan makes it fun for the boys. They love to participate, and we have seen huge improvements in both of their reading skills.”

  • "We highly recommend her!”

“Our son has been working with Susan for just over a year. She came highly recommended, and we could not be happier! My son has made substantial improvement in phonics and comprehension. Susan's teaching methods keep him engaged, and he looks forward to their time together. The fact that it is a virtual meeting makes it easy to fit our current schedule. She keeps us frequently updated with progress and what her plan is to assure his continued success. We highly recommend her!”

  • "We are so grateful..."

“We are so grateful that we have had you in our lives the last two years. It is very hard to think we might be “done” with reading tutoring and not get to see you each week. You are such a wonderful therapist and personal influence on our son. I was hoping we could just keep on having you until he left for college, haha! Thank you again for all your patience, guidance, and teaching.”
